George
Harmon McCartney and his wife Ann Elizabeth Piggott were married
November 29, 1870 in Muscatine Co., IA. Their seven children were Jessie William
born July 6, 1872 married Etta Belle Day; Jacob H. born December 16, 1873
died as an infant; Charles Oscar born March 11, 1875 married Mary Weber; Frederick

was the last surviving Civil War veteran of Wilton and passed away in Wilton
February 15, 1935. His wife Anna passed away in Iowa City, IA seven years
earlier July 2, 1928.
Lydia A. McCartney born May 1850 passed away as an infant and is
buried in Morrow Co., OH.
Paden Airen McCartney and his wife Rachel P. "Nellie" England were married June 12, 1873 in Muscatine Co., IA. Their three children were Clara A. born 1874 married William E. Churchill; Louis J. "Louie" born June 8, 1877; Cornelius S. born 1883. Interestingly, Paden's uncle (father's brother) was named Paden [Aron] McCartney, and that same uncle named one of his sons Paden as well.
The 1880 federal census and the 1885 state census of Muscatine Co., show
Paden and family living in Wilton. Sometime after 1885 but before 1889 the
family
moved
three counties west of Muscatine Co. to What Cheer (Keokuk Co.), IA as their
daughter Louis J. "Louie" passed away at the age of twelve and was
buried September 11, 1889 in Highland Cemetery. A year earlier Paden's brothers
James B. and Robert C. married two women also from What Cheer at What Cheer
within eight months of each other. It is highly probable brothers James B.
and Robert C. were living with their older brother Paden and his wife at the
time of their marriages.

Paden
and Rachel again moved between 1889 and 1916 to Milan (Sullivan Co.), MO to
be closer to Rachael's relatives, as the 1916 obituary of Paden's mother places
him there. I walked the Elmwood Cemetery in Milan July 21, 1995 and found
many of Rachel's relatives buried there. Paden and Rachel's son Cornelius
died in 1920 and was buried in Milan's Oakwood Cemetery. Rachel died five
years later June 11, 1925 of chronic nephritis and was also buried in Oakwood
Cemetery - "Block 2, lot 71 S 1/2, by order of P.A. McCartney" [Register
of Funerals 1891-1964, Schoene Funeral Home, Milan, MO c 1995 by Juanita Hall].
I walked this large cemetery July 21, 1995 but could not find Rachel's stone
but did find her son Cornelius's stone, in a large open area with no nearby
stones. I later confirmed Rachael was buried with her son Cornelius as I had
assumed. Shortly after the death of Rachel, Paden moved from Milan to Harrisburg,
IL where he made his residency with his daughter, Clara A. (McCartney) Churchill.
Paden passed away November 23, 1935 in Harrisburg, but was shipped back to
Milan for burial in Oakwood, beside his wife and son.
Emma Francis McCartney and her husband Hugh Thompson were married July 3, 1873 in Muscatine Co., IA. Their only child was Mary H. born 1875 married Mazie Brower. Emma Francis passed away August 1, 1951 in Wilton, and her husband Hugh forty years earlier also in Wilton, 1911.
James Brunner McCartney and his wife Julia E. Parlet were married
February 2, 1888 in What Cheer, Keokuk Co., IA. Their only child, James Edward

Jorgenson; Ora Dell born May 29, 1896; Charles Jacob born February 9, 1898 died at birth; Myrtle Lavina born March 30, 1906 married Lloyd Waters; and Laura Frances born February 2, 1909 married LeRoy Kramer. Their five children were Jay L. born September 23, 1894, died March 13, 1949 married Florence Nolte; Barbara M.
